Sex education lagging in US schools

(CNN) - According to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sex education is has become less prevalent in American middle schools.
In 2010, researchers studied schools in 45 states to see how many are teaching about pregnancy and STD prevention.
Eleven states teaching what the CDC considers essential information declined compared to its 2008 study.
None of the remaining states had rising numbers.
Researchers say education on avoiding STDs, especially HIV, is critical, particularly for middle school aged children who probably haven't started having sex.
